Artist Mark Ben Harris presents “Gone 2 Soon,” featuring iconic figures and influences who passed away before their time. As Mark Ben Harris deals with his own personal loss from the sudden death of his older sister in 2015, his goal is transforming grief and pain into healing tributes.
Mark Ben Harris combines his experience as a digital graphic designer along with his background in fine art and art history while also taking influence from Pop Art masters like Warhol, Lichtenstein, and Keith Haring.
Mark digitally creates his portraits and then carefully transfers his designs by hand to canvas using a labor intensive process. Each image is paneled out into grids, then by printing each individual panel in black and white he then organizes the panels onto the canvas surface. Once the panels are set in place he transfers the printer ink to the surface by rubbing the panel backside thereby transferring the ink to canvas creating a sketch or ghost image of the digital art. Mark then paints several thin layers of acrylic paint onto the canvas creating a flat surface similar to a printed digital artwork. The final result mimics the result of a digital print, completely flat and void of any trace of the artist’s hand and brush.
